[Tradition] Hail (wakakusa)
[Tradition] Hail (wakakusa)
This simple traditional Japanese pattern expresses arare (grain hail). Large and small arare patterns are dyed all over the white fabric. The arare pattern is never interrupted, so it is imbued with the meaning of infinite prosperity. It was also used on the kamishimo (traditional Japanese kimono) worn by men of samurai families. It is still a popular pattern today as one of the Edo komon. The color is wakakusairo (light blue), the delicious color of that famous "zunda" (bamboo grass). Combined with the soft look of the chusen dyeing, this hand towel has a very Japanese feel.
With the same pattern,
Sumiiro (gray close to black)
Young grass ■ (Zunda color)
Purple (the color used on New Year's pieces )
